Kwa Vonza–Yatta Ward · Kitui County
Kwa Mali Community Forest Association (K-CFA) unites the communities around the Kwa Mali hilltops to protect the forests that feed the Mwitasyano River — through agroforestry, ecotourism and sustainable forest management that improve local livelihoods.
Welcome to K-CFA
Established on 28 August 2024, Kwa Mali Community Forest Association is all about sustainable forest management and improving local livelihoods. Our initiatives — including agroforestry and ecotourism — help protect the rich biodiversity of our hilly forest areas, which feed into the Mwitasyano River.
We bring together individuals, farmer groups and institutions committed to sustainable management of forest resources across Lower Yatta, Kitui West, Kitui Central, Ikutha, Katulani and Mutomo Subcounties.
What We Do
From bringing communities together to educating the next generation, our work spans conservation, livelihoods and knowledge-sharing.
Bringing together individuals, farmer groups and institutions to strengthen community bonds in pursuit of environmental conservation.
Training and resources that equip communities to manage forest resources without compromising the health of the ecosystem.
Promoting forest-based enterprises so communities generate income while preserving the natural environment.
A platform for research and development offering learning opportunities to community members and external researchers alike.
Our Programmes
K-CFA runs more than twenty coordinated activities. Here are a few that shape our landscape and community.
Community-based ecotourism around the Kwa Mali hilltops, from guided nature trails to visitor hospitality.
Bamboo planting along the Mwitasyano riverbanks to fight erosion and revive a dry catchment.
Establishing safe habitats that protect local wildlife while creating educational and eco-tourism opportunities.
Protecting the cultural shrine on our first hilltop while sharing its heritage with visitors and the community.
